10 Best Places To Invest in Canada: Collingwood is on the list

Someone sent me an article today from a new real estate magazine directed at home buyers and investors.  They have written a feature article entitled “10 Best Places To Invest In Canada”  and, rounding out the top ten is none other than Collingwood.

I notice that Collingwood is the only town on the list (the rest are cities) and, it’s the only one listed that is not home (yet) to a university.

According to the magazine, they formed their list based on how the market is performing, potential return on investment, current infrastructure and future development plans.  Most of the article quotes a local Broker who is the president of our real estate board.  To be fair, as a friend pointed out to me today, it is therefore a single source article aside from the statistics they’ve gathered.

Nonetheless, they name a number of very valid reasons why this area is so popular with real estate investors as well as home buyers:

“The market is being driven by purchasers looking to retire here. Many are purchasing now to use part-time with the intention of retiring here in future.  Many of our buyers belong to a private ski or golf club in the area however, just as many don’t and chose the area for other lifestyle reasons.  Collingwood is Canada’s only true four-season recreational lifestyle community encompassing skiing, golf, hiking and boating.  Culture abounds here with an active live theatre and art community.  Most of the major box stores have or are opening in town and, there is no shortage of good restaurant choices.  Collingwoods proximity to the GTA makes it popular with baby boomers and young professionals.  Many retirees elect to go south in the winter and if so, their condo or home offers good rental potential for the ski season.”

I can think of many more reasons to add after just having sold a number of properties in the last months; all to community newcomers who are very excited to become part of our community.  Yes, it’s a good place to invest and an even better place to live. Most days anyway.
