One of my favourite places in Collingwood is the Arboretum at the foot of Hickory Street, north of First Street along the Georgian Bay shoreline. This very beautiful park has justifiably earned a 5 star review on Trip Advisor and every time I go there, I meet lots of local people and also visitors to our community.

The Arboretum is part of our park and trail system and features both paved and natural trails for walking or cycling. A central, open-air pavilion offers a shady place for contemplation as do the various benches along the way. There is a memorial fountain, winding paths and, it is really a Botanical site where people have donated trees marked by dedication plaques and tree descriptions. It’s also a favourite spot for wedding pictures and for taking Fido for a dip in the Bay.

TIP:  If you are thinking of planting a tree or shrub and want to see what they look like, you are sure to find an example at the Arboretum!

As you wander among the trails, there are so many places to stop and take a picture, to access the water, find a sunny or shady spot and to meet your friends, neighbours and visitors.  You can continue on the trail system to points east and west and you’ll also find wayfaring signs, historical explanatory plaques and, the very special Labyrinth.  More on that one coming soon.

If you are in need of restoring a little balance with beauty and nature, I highly recommend a stop at the Arboretum.
