Collingwood’s Black Box Theatre Opens May 1
Wikipedia defines a Black Box Theatre as a simple, somewhat unadorned performance space, usually a large square room with black walls and a flat floor. It is a relatively recent innovation in theatre and one opens in Collingwood on May 1st.
Located in the creative centre at 65 Simcoe Street, the Simcoe Street Theatre is located in the space recently vacated by theatre Collingwood. Building owners and visionaries, Anke and Richard Lex have turned the 3,000 square foot space into an intimate 100 seat theatre that will see musicians, actors, lecturers and presentations in the years to come. I dropped by last week for a sneak peak and can say, the air was electric with the promise of things to come.
The grand opening takes place on May 1st from 4-6 p.m. with author, poet and special guest Harry Posner. See you there.
