Good News Story: Renew Meaford and The Hub

Posted by Sherry Rioux on July 26, 2017

the hubRather than being content with empty storefronts, the Town of Meaford has an innovative program designed to assist new businesses and building owners in the downtown core.

Renew Meaford is a not-for-profit corporation that helps businesses get into downtown storefronts to gain exposure, build their business, test a new market and become a sustainable enterprise through a structured participation fee that starts at just $25.00 a week.  It also helps building owners to nurture potential long term tenants.

As explained in this article,  the first participant is the new Meaford Artisans Hub that opened in April, 2017 with the assistance of the RENEW program, at 55 Trowbridge Street.  The Hub is a space where local artists can gather to meet, create, share, teach, and sell their work in the onsite spaces made up of a workshop, gallery space, room for classes, and a retail store.

I am really proud of Brad and Nadia Mear whom I was fortunate enough to work with when they moved to the area. They both bring a strong background in the performing arts and their energy and enthusiasm is infectious. (I wish I could catch some of their talent in my bones!) They are the founders of The Hub.  Nadia is also the force behind the Sandcastle Theatre which provides performance art training for children and, a member of the Theatre Georgian Bay collective.  Just check out her bio here and see what kind of energy is moving into South Georgian Bay.
