The Flying Chestnut in Eugenia
For the last couple of years, I’ve been hearing RAVE reviews about a restaurant in Eugenia called the Flying Chestnut Kitchen. Last week-end, my hubby, son and I finally made the quick half hour trip out there to enjoy a Sunday brunch and now, we too are RAVING fans.
Eugenia is a little village near Flesherton and this quirky, eclectic little restaurant is located on a side street opposite the ball park on Pellesier Street. The building and décor are in themselves, worth the trip. Chef and owner, Shawn Adler, originally owned two restaurants in Peterborough before deciding to move to our area. In May, 2010, he opened The Flying Chestnut where everything is fresh, organic, home grown and local where possible.
For our brunch, I enjoyed mouth wateringly delicious Kolapore Trout croquettes served with two poached eggs, buttery local fiddleheads, organic asparagus, crunchy, rosemary encrusted home fries and a fresh salad with a perfect light dressing. John enjoyed a duck confit while our son dug into a stack of fluffy blueberry pancakes with whipped brown butter. All of us agreed, that this was one of the best meals we’d EVER had, anywhere, bar none.
I forgot my camera that day so apologies for this blurry photo but you get the idea.
The Flying Chestnut Kitchen is open Thursday – Sunday 5:00 pm – 11:00 pm and, Saturday and Sunday brunch from 11:00 am-3:00 pm. As this restaurant is tiny, call ahead at 519-924-1809 to make reservations.
Chef Adler also owns a sister restaurant in Flesherton on Grey Rd 4 called The Flying Spatula Diner which is open seven days a week from 7:00 am – 2:00 pm serving breakfast all day and lunch at 11:00-2:00.
Both are CASH ONLY and ATM’s are available. So go ahead and see for yourself. I promise you won’t regret it.
