Terrasan Craigleith Village Development

Posted by Sherry Rioux on April 18, 2011

I often get enquiries about the proposed Terrasan Craigleith Village Development planned along Highway 26 in Blue Mountain just west of Collingwood.  The developer is proposing to build a large Village Community which includes a combination of commercial, retail, recreational, institutional and natural and open spaces.  The zoning by-law has been approved.

The 63.75 acre site is located along the north side of the highway running west from Long Point Road and east to Blue Mountain Drive. Some of the property includes the Easter Seal camp, Alphorn Restaurant and Craigleith General Store. Approximately  40% of the land is designated Provincially Significant Wetland (PSW).

There is no question that a development of this magnitude would have a significant impact in the area.  The public has raised concerns about everything from protection of the environment to traffic impacts.

You can view a copy of the proposed site plan here and, find full details of the proposal, studies and planning documents on the Town of Blue Mountain website here.

UPDATE  March 2012:

The property has now gone bankrupt and is being sold by our RE/MAX office under Power of Sale for 13.5 million dollars.

I am hearing that Terrasan has been called on its mortgage by Meridian and I am unable to have a web search come up with anything of Tarrasans Ontario head office. We all know that two divisions of Terrasan went into receivership early in 2011 and must assume the rest of the organization is now gone.
Would like to know if you have heard anything?

I gather that since the approvals happened, the municipality has heard nothing further from the developer and nobody really knows what is going on. Terrasan had it’s issues in another municipality too so your guess may be well founded but I really do not know as yet.
