Fast Facts
- Collingwood and The Blue Mountains have been labelled a NORC – Naturally occurring retirement community, a term used to describe a community that has a large proportion of residents over 60 but was not specifically planned or designed to meet the needs of seniors living independently in their homes.
- But that doesn’t mean sitting on the porch on a rocking chair – far from it! Today’s Boomers living in and moving to the area are more active, engaged and energetic than ever before!
- Seniors in our community are active in volunteering and are the foundation of many local organizations.
- Like much of our area’s real estate market, the Collingwood – Blue Mountain market is being driven by retiring or soon to retire Baby Boomers.
- Collingwood has been ranked 11th in Canada for the Best Places to Retire 2017 and 16th Best Places to Retire 2018 by Moneysense
Collingwood draws people looking for small-town charm along with some of the best recreation opportunities in all of Ontario. The town has almost doubled in size over the last 20 years, to just under 22,000 full time residents. In addition to the active lifestyle residents enjoy there are cultural, shopping and dining experiences in Collingwood, Blue Mountain Village and Thornbury – Clarksburg.
It’s easy to stay active year-round. Warm weather – sailing, fishing, camping, swimming, scuba diving, hiking, biking and eight golf courses. Fall offers a wonderful display of colours along the escarpment along the walking, biking and hiking trails. In winter, Blue Mountain offers numerous slopes for downhill skiers and snowboarders. Plus, there are numerous cross-county ski and snowmobile trails.
