Would You Be OK with Bad Pictures on Your Real Estate Listing?

I sure wouldn’t. I’d be furious. So why are there so many bad real estate listing pics out there? It always makes me wonder what those sellers expectations are and if they are truly interested in getting their home sold. People often decide whether or not to view a home based on the pictures so they had better be good.

If you surf around on listing sites, you’ll see pictures of toilet bowls, unmade beds and cluttered rooms. Those may say

something about the house or, they may suggest that nobody cared about showing the home in its best light. Then there are what I call drive-by photos taken for a car that must still be in motion. What about vertical iphone photos with black space above and below. Then there are the fuzzy pictures that always make me grab cleaner for my glasses. Narrow angle shots, reflective mirrors, over-exposed, under-exposed and crooked shots – we see them all.

Blurred Bedroom with Bed and Nightstand with Retro Instagram StyToday, we have many tools available with digital photos, wide angle cameras, HD photography, virtual tours, 360 degree tours, panoramas and all the other fun things. While we used to say that a picture can’t lie, that’s not so true anymore. An unscrupulous person can use a simple editing program that can make a tiny, dirty and over-priced house look like a palace. They can make dead grass come to life, hydro wires disappear magically and alter wall colours – yikes.

As REALTORS®, we have an obligation to do the very best job we can for our clients and shoddy or falsified photos don’t cut it. Every picture tells a story and it’s important that it be told well. Today, professional, HD photography has become the norm but even with that, there is some distance yet to go. I find many of those pictures distorted with fuzzy edges and green over tints. Luckily, the amazing photographer I use has perfected clear and true-to-life photos that jump off a page online and in print. Here’s a picture of Alan at work. I tell him he’s a geek with all that stuff on his belt and around his neck. He just smiles and tells me he is a damn good geek. And he is. Alan

And here are some examples of his work
