This Christmas Event Has “Community” Written All Over It

Posted by Sherry Rioux on December 12, 2018

I’m a full-time REALTOR® but also, a part-time Elf.  My name is Elf Hug-a-Lot.  (This old post helps explain why.  I love hugs.)

A few years, my hubby and I gathered together a group of very special friends and started the Christmas Day Feast in Collingwood.  We decided to offer a free meal on Christmas Day to anyone who felt their lives would be enriched by attending.  We had no idea how it would turn out and BOOM!  It’s been the best, most amazing thing ever!

This year, we are hosting the Feast for the 5th year in a row and will seat 142 people.  We’ll have almost 100 volunteers working before, during and after the event.  The food, dish rentals, facilities, marketing, and other costs are covered 100% by people in the community who donate food, time, services or money. How much more community based could anything be?

A delicious meal that is complete with music and Santa, on Christmas Day, put on 100% by the community for the community. Makes me want to hug the whole town at once.
