The COVID-19 pandemic has reinforced how important pets are to people.

In April, the GTHS made the important call to assist pets and their families in financially disadvantaged situations, to access spay and neuter procedures. For one day a week, the GTHS Animal Hospital became used to fix pets in situations where the cost of the surgery was out of reach.

The Rioux Baker Team’s gift will operate a spay and neuter clinic, helping to fix at least 15 animals in one day!  Fortunately, our gift will also be matched, thanks to the support of a leading donor.

Gabriella, pictured here, took advantage of these services.

“I went to the humane society pretty overwhelmed because I couldn’t get my cat fixed through my vets,” Gabriella said. “I wasn’t able to get it taken care of before she went into heat. I do have a disability and I can’t risk her injuring me while she’s in heat.”

With our support, Gabriella’s cat was taken care of, which has helped her immensely during the pandemic.

“She’s a family pet that we got to help me,” she said. “I do have a pain disorder, so that limits how much I can get out and about. She’s brought a lot of comfort to me.”

The GTHS was able to accomplish a lot this year including:

  • Saving 1,100 homeless animals
  • Delivering over 8,000 pounds of food
  • Fixing 1,200 pets
  • Covering 68 emergency procedures
